What do you think of it so far?

What do you think of it so far?

Didn't find your answer?

Just wanted to see that Any Answers is working as it should. So far so good.

But what comes next is what really matters. What do you think of the new system and its features?

Feel free to quote me if you like - that was one of the many user requests we tried to accommodate.

Congratulations to Joe, Jenny, Becky and all the AccountingWEB members who gave us so much help with this in the past few months.

WOW!

What an improvement love it.

The previous version was really looking out of date. Seems to have inbuilt spell check? My spelling mistakes were underlined.

Like all major changes, it may take some getting used to, but the new features are welcome. A fitting time to change my avatar again!

Welcome!

Thanks for the initial feedback. Glad you're enjoying it so far.

Obviously, as with any new site, there will be a few teething problems but we're getting to them as quickly as we can and then it'll be full steam ahead!

Keep us posted if you come up against any issues and keep the feedback coming too!

Many thanks

Jenny

Like the look but hitting a few errors

Hi John,

Like the look so far, and the new editor.  Particularly like the new user profile layout and functionality.  Hitting a few errors though... will take screenshots and send feedback by email.

Search doesn't work

Hi John,

Definitely seems to be something strange going on with search.  Type in Sage get loads, but type in Twinfield or Xero get nothing returned at all.  Hmmmm.

LIke the brighter wider look BUT

I fear that the list of news items with titles only will dramatically reduce the number of items that get read by users. Previously there was a sentence to amplify each title and to identify the author/source.

I think it's a retrograde step to revert to headlines only. What was the thinking behind this approach?

ps: Can't see how to quote you btw. I can see reply and quote links at the end of each comment above, but not on your original post or anywhere around the comment box in which I'm typing at the moment.

I really like the initial look and feel of the new site. What a vast improvement. It looks really smart and modern. And so much faster.

I shall spend a bit more time on it tomorrow. Right now, I want to get some sleep zzzzzzz.

And me - though I've had to ignore several 'users' just to block the one contributor! (There was initially a problem, where the 'hide comments' link was not available on certain of the profiles, but that bug seems to have been fixed/disappeared.)

Receiving notification of new posting on Any Answers

I have just had to post a meaningless comment in order to be "entitled" to receive notifications of new postings.

I can't be the only one on AccountingWeb who doesn't know all the answers but who would benefit from reading the answers of other more experienced accountants.

Please allow us to receive these notifications without making a posting.

Looks good

Though it has just taken me 15 minutes to log in, as I got locked out as by the time I got here I had already got my password wrong apparently(!)

I'm very confuzled, my email addy is listed as my home one, but my updates come to (and always have come to) my work addy.  I've changed it now, but not sure how that was even possible (but I feel that is a PICNIC situation :) )

Fair enough Becky, but given I had to log in to get to this page is it possible for you to put that message on the homepage where the general public can see it?

Comment order

It appears that when quoting someone's comments, the post appears immediately below the first person's comment - which makes some kind of sense, so that one can follow a direct discussion within the thread. However, the 'jump to most recent comment' doesn't seem to work and still takes me to the end of the list. On longer threads, there is therefore a risk that such responses go unread.

Can't search content!

I hope this is just teething problems but previously where I wanted to research a matter, such as Annual Investment Allowance all previous questions raised on this subject comes up and I find the one relating to my requirements. Now all I get is 'Advanced' screen and no subject matter. If I go into tax only I get every matter with any of the words in which when I go to advanced to improve the search I get the same as before and no matters relating to my search!!! It was so easy on the old system. What am i doing wrong or is this facility no longer available..... which was my greater use of accounting web!

Slick design

When logging in the button to click log-in doesn't appear and also with the add comment box (using IE v7).

Also, although we can thank individuals it doesn't say next to the individuals name how many times they have been thanked. It would be useful if particularly helpful contributors could be recognised. :)

I've justed tested the thanks button, with someone who had already been thanked, and it does update to show the number of times thanked.

I too have noted the absence of login and add comment boxes, and have reported it directly to AW (I too am using IE7 here, I'll test it on Firefox later if it hasn't been resolved by then)

Does it just show the number of thanks for that post or the total number of thanks for that user?

Thanks all for the feedback – keep it coming.

Everything you are telling us here or by email is being reported straight into our technical team who are working through the list of things to fix.

They’re literally just finishing off some changes to the search which should alleviate some of the issues.

PS. Comment pasted from Word. Marvellous!

Not a problem ... more of an observation

Using the quote button always inserts the new comment immediately under the post being quoted, which sort of defeats the object in the first place.

I am not keen on posts being inserted half way through the thread, and having the quote button means it isn't really necessary, as people can use the quoted text to find and read the quoted post, if they desire.

I would prefer posts to be in sequential order, so the logic follows through.

Finally!

I've been unable to post until now as I didn't have a big green POST box so I could write a witty comment (?!) but never post it! A tad frustrating.

And the search facility didn't work as several folk have found.

I agree with Shirley's comment about posts being sequential otherwise we'll never know what the new ones are.....

So I guess I'm not exactly thrilled with the new look as yet but will wait and see. Does it have a spell-checker?

@Flash

So happy you finally managed to join us :)

I have noticed that new posts have a red 'NEW' against them, so you can spot them the first time (and thats the only time) that you view that thread after those comments were added. However, it does mean that you have to scroll down the whole thread looking for these tags, otherwise you will miss them altogether, and you will have to do this everytime you view that thread if you want to spot all the new posts. I don't think people will bother, and therefore any posts that make use of the 'quote' button will be missed by many people.

It's a good idea, in theory, but in practice it has more disadvantages than benefits.

Test plan and disciplined approach ....

@ShirleyM

It's not about producing perfect results, no one is going to pick up all the potential issues. No, your time was not wasted but software testing requires a disciplined approach and it is not really a quick exercise

Did you get any guidance such a test plan, areas to cover etc. or was it simply a random approach decided upon by the individual testers concerned; in which case you might all have been looking at the same thing

Presumably the test results were recorded and sent back to Aweb where they could co-ordinate everything and ensure that each area had been looked at and checked off? Thus ensuring a systematic approach to covering each page

One would assume that Aweb has a 'bug reporting' database that all the testers were given access to for recording problems and prioritising them. This would enable an dynamic raport between testers and developers so that issues could be fixed at the same time as new ones were being reported and testers could lookup isues to see if they had already been reported
