Which ASA are you looking at!!

Did you know you might not be in the correct place when you login using your new credentials?

Didn't find your answer?

I don't know what the Revenue think they're doing but I've just found out that if I use my ASA credentials I can login to two different places. The old style screen which lets me do nothing easy to login to, but the place I should have been was somewhere you have to search for and it wasn't even on the first search page.... Uhhh what's going on... confused, why make the whole experience complicated. Definitely a case of Making Tax Difficult!!!

HMRC won't recognise me as an agent. I have been doing this for over 30 years. See my post yesterday (how to complain to HMRC). I tried to register for Agent Manager Service but online form will not accept any code number. So I can do nothing. I have phoned the call centre and after the usual delays the best they can do is say they will refer to their IT specialists. I am not hopeful.

In what respect wont they recognise you as an agent? at what point can you not register? is this an AML thing? you do need to be registered for AML either with a membership body, or HMRC themselves, which can take about 3 months to complete.

Even when you log in to the right portal, there can be problems. We just kept getting the same "link your clients" screen. It wasn't until we couldn't submit a return and spoke to Sage, who then gave us a number at HMRC that told us to try a different browser to log in, that we had any success. The ridiculous part about it in my opinion is having to get authorisation from each client to file when we already have authorisation and have "linked" our accounts.

You get taken to a screen that looks exactly like your old style log-in but completely bereft of all clients and services.

If you are logging into the actual AsA you should get:
Line 1: gov.uk Agent Services account
Line 2 Account Home .... sign out
Line 3: your company name
Line 4: Account Number: {xxxx9999999]

The account number is important for various things like the agents API.

If you use the HM services home page and enter the login details for your ASA account it will go to the wrong page. The page looks like the original agent page. You have to go to another site to find the ASA account and then use your new credentials and you will get to the correct place its a blue page not green!!! Cant say it does much more but how and why can you be logged into the wrong page using specific credentials?

It depends where you start. If you start somewhere that requires credentials it will ask for the credentials then take you to the somewhere indicated by the original URL (web address)
