why can't I see my new clients' past returns

I cannot view new client's past returns on my agent account

Didn't find your answer?

I have just taken on a new client and she is now on my agent account.  I can file her 19/20 tax return but I can't see her previous tax returns that her former accountant filed....does anyone know why this is?

Filed via 3rd party software.

Not many people in practice would use HMRC's unless doing only a handful of really simple returns.

Imho, this is a big step backwards from the days where you could get copies of past returns from HMRC.

I suppose you can still do that but it now takes months, rather than a few days.

That's progress for you.

Nooo. We have the most digitally advanced tax system in the world. HMRC & HM Gov say so.

They are just quoting what the software developers told them. The real issue is they are gullible enough to believe them.

Don't think you can ever see past Tax Returns - I certainly can't for any of my clients, only Tax Overviews and Tax Account summaries.

You can only see returns and tax calculations for any year if they were filed using HMRC's free software. If filed with commercial software they will not be there.

That's the thing.

You ought to be able to see a summary of the entries.

It's not like HMRC don't know this stuff.
