Why Companies House is registered office address?

Registered office of a company is Companies House itself!? What does it mean?

Didn't find your answer?

A potential client has asked us to accept his company's accounts. But basically, the registered office address is the Companies House, and the client claims that he is not aware of this! The company registered office has changed to "PO BOX 4385, 07078853: Companies House Default Address, Cardiff, CF14 8LH" and I searched in the Companies House advance search for "CF14 8LH" postcode, and I see that there are a lot of companies with this address. We cannot trust this client, and we are totally confused, and we do not know how to deal with him. We asked him to wait for our response. consequently, we do not have the Authentication code. I mentioned one of these companies as an anonymous example (07078853) which is not the above client for privacy reasons.

Thanks in advance and kind regards

S Oliver

The registered office has been changed to Companies House.
This usually happens after a long period of strike off, and has then been restored or (more likely) because the address being used was not supposed to be used.
We've an example on this very page, of an ex-client who didn't change the registered office when they ceased to be a client. The accountant can use form RP07 (I think) and Companies House will change it to their address.

But it's bad news generally, and certainly I wouldn't deal with any company which had that as its registered office.

The example is a change in 2019, but with subsequent submissions
Not come across one before
Chances are the old registered address was a rented property and the owner of the property objected

Christmas advice for you - Tell him to go away as he'll be trouble and not worth the effort of producing the accounts in a hurry unless he gives you a very large fee up front
