Didn't find your answer?

Hi all.

Just wondering if anyone's a member of myaccountantsclub.co.uk, and if so what their impression of it is.  Looking at it from the outside, it seems quite AVN-like in its outlook, but with a quite reasonable subscription fee for a year.  I'd be interested in hearing the thoughts of anyone who's got or had a subscription to it.

Thanks,

WS.

I was a member of the tax club, which is a sister organisation

To start with, I was quite happy as I got a monthly tax update which was useful, but this stopped part way through the year and we were invited to spend an extra c£100 pa to continue receiving it.  After that, all I felt I got from membership was the regular opportunity to spend more money to access various newsletters/seminars/apps etc.  I could not see what I was getting for my initial subscription.  I was very disappointed, so did not renew.

Accountants club may be different, but I think it is run by the same people.

Thanks taxhound.  I was hoping someone would have direct knowledge, but this apparently was not to be.  I think you're right that it's run by the same people.

Same as taxhound

But I joined both & haven't renewed either. Maybe if you're willing to go along to their seminars as you then get a free app-thingy but I wasn't and they don't rate you as worthy of anything then.

Feeder organisation for AVN

mytaxclub and myaccountantsclub are basically feeder organisations for AVN. Basically they are offering some AVN tools at a very low cost and then hope that through their seminars, and so forth, that they can get some members to upgrade to either AVN Tax or AVN full membership.

So, bearing that in mind, are they worth it?

Yes. In my opinion the benchmark software provided by the Accountants Club is worth the subscription alone. It's a very useful tool for illustrating KPIs and the perfomance of a business in a simple 'traffic light' format. It's really good as a starting point for business advice services.

Thanks James for your perspective.  This pretty much confirms what I suspected (and I'm inclined to agree with your conclusion as well.)  How does the benchmarking thing work by the way?  Do you enter the Companies House trade category, or is it somethine else?

SIC Codes

Benchmark works by reference to SIC codes.

You enter financial data about the client, including adjustments to make owner remuneration at market value if desired, and then the software compares it all the information on the central database for the SIC code.

When you draw of a report you can see how many businesses its compared yours too. That way if there aren't many, you can pull up a level on the SIC code before reporting.

It's a useful bit of software to draw out KPIs and help you explain them in a way clients will understand.

The Tax Club remuneration planner is rather less useful.

The apps you get at the regional meetings can be good too.

Again, the focus of the regional meetings does tend to be on providers, like Future Films, trying to get you to sell their product to your clients. The non-sales sessions are good though!
