Xero price increases - enough is enough?

Premium up 17%

Didn't find your answer?

Further to a wave of gripes from customers struggling with "new" reports and other "improvements" that mess up processes that worked perfectly well before, we now have the annual price rise! If you need multicurrency thats a 17% increase. If you are incensed by this please lobby Xero!

  • Starter will increase from £14 to £15 per month
  • Standard will increase from £28 to £30 per month
  • Premium will increase from £36 to £42 per month
  • Ultimate will increase from £49 to £55 per month

We have several clients on it who use multi-currency's options.

Its ridiculously expensive now.

Which is a shame as its a very decent bit of kit. I had been playing around with Pandle for few clients, but its not really good enough once you get into VAT.

I stand corrected - i didnt realise multiple currencies required premium so we will have a few affected clients. Although its nice to have multi currency i have been know to do without.

It would be nice if someone came in and really upset the applecart - so many different products but such a pfaff learning different products , so many products just dont get exactly what us acountants want and deliver - xero is my personal fave but even xero annoys at times (custome payments on acount / no importing bank rules)

Bokio looked interesting when they turned up - they can be free with invoicing vat and 1 bank feed if you dont need the extras and freeagent will do for soem that have right bank - they aint xero though

So it is what it is - we get sage cloud liences at good value so that works for clients where xero deosnt bring something extra (for large volume stuff xero destroys sage cloud)

Still nothing compared to the Dext price increase of 400%

Totally unacceptable

"We continue to invest in our platform to deliver more efficient tools" yeah right, stuff we don't want and isn't as good as the best in breed (Payroll need I say more)

We are getting to the point now with some smaller clients, it's more cost-efficient to go back to old skool methods

Still who to blame? I have to think HMRC has a lot to answer for by promoting MTD to software companies and asking them to pick up the bill.

Absolutely right. This is largely on HMRC who have colluded with shysters.

Alternatives?
- Quickfile
- Sage
- Clearbooks (how are they doing, they were hoping to make inroads but seem quiet lately?)

Anything else? One big issue with Xero if you try and use the international edition it for IE and other EU businesses is the lack of VAT functionality. No late claims being the massive gap.

We received notification from Sage yesterday their prices for the Sage Accountants platform are going up by 12%, not quite as bad as Xero but it is on top of a 9% increase last year. It is getting harder and harder to justify the cost of Sage these days and I personally wouldn't bother with Sage at all if it was not for the fact that we still have a few clients that have never used anything other than Sage for their bookkeeping and find the thought of changing software too challenging.

Agree.

Price increase is outrageous.

Their development is cr*p and focussed on useless stuff that no-one wants or needs.

Payroll is poor for all but the most basic of clients, CIS module is half finished and clunky. Billing/approval processes are next to useless.

Lots of improvements made lately by people who clearly have no idea what they are doing. Probably paid a fortune as well to churn out cr*p.

I mean they have just increased the number of statement lines in the bank rec (Yay I thought) but no, idiots just did this on the phone app. Come on. What serious business is doing bank recs on their phone? Still can't reconcile a credit note from the bank rec either.

Updated reports that are no longer fit for purpose.

Pushing useless functions like their advisor reports. Which are simply missing so much functionality it is next to useless.

**rant over**

Ref cis - i find that xero solution works fine for us. Compared to sage cloud where you cant even verify subbies using software at least its full and complete from my perspective.

CIS will always get bitty if amount of cis tax deducted on invoice doesnt match what is actually - our clients that do use xero to invoice reverse charge and cis seem to generally have less issues than peeps not using xero. sending chitties is easy as is viewing monthly totals

as you say its the annoying basic stuff like matching bank entries credit notes / bank rule export/import / payments on account that i dont understand . Being honest they all annoy the heck out of me for one reason or another so the alternatives all have their own issues too.

Yesterday's prices are not to days prices and a rising tide lifts all ships.

This is the software equivalent of government announcing political bad news on the same day as a major event. Xero's attitude will be "well if they are all doing it why don't we?"

Perhaps this has been triggered by Xero being inundated with Hubdoc enquires after this week's Dext bombshell.

As a Xero and Dext user this annoys me, I have already decided to ditch Dext this year (all £650pm of it) on principle though I will stay with Xero ... for now.

This is our preferred software for bookkeeping and VAT return processing. It's easy to import from client's spreadsheets (we give them a proforma spreadsheet to use). Clients like it as it is easy to use and there are no hidden extras to pay for unlike the charge bases used by some of the other software houses.

Could it be that the worm (us) has turned, having noticed that all those 'clouds' are producing a lot of wet stuff ... and charging you for getting drenched!

Subscriptions (as opposed to licences with/without annual maintenance) were always a con ... and were the end-point objective of the suppliers (for whom cloud is merely the mechanism of centrally managing subscriptions).

Guess they are paying for their conferences which are like the Apple ones, full of believers whooping and hollering at every opportunity
