XI EORI number format & checker

Is there one for new NI XI EORI numbers?

Didn't find your answer?

In the past I've been able to amaze clients who have applied for a GB EORI number but not received anything from HMRC notifying them of it by:-

a) Having an educated guess that the number is GB<VAT number>000

then

b) proving it is valid using https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/dds2/eos/eori_validation.jsp?Lang=en

Questions are

i) Is there a standard format for the new XI EORI numbers for Northern Ireland?

ii) Is there an online checker for these that works?

If VAT registered, then the XI number will indeed be the VAT number with XI at the start and 000 at the end.

You can check XI VAT and GB numbers here https://www.gov.uk/check-eori-number and you can also check XI EORI numbers on the same website you link to.

If you try to check an XI number there it comes up with:-

You need to use a different service
You searched for ‘XI12345678000’.

To check an EORI number that starts with XI, use the EORI checker service on the European Commission website (opens in new tab).

so it's back to https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/dds2/eos/eori_validation.jsp?Lang=en for XI numbers.
