Poor data from ERP systems a major problem, finds CIMA survey [2001]

Rather than helping management accountants do their jobs, inadequate technology systems are one of the biggest problems they have to deal with, according to a new survey from CIMA.

Nearly half of the businesses that responded to the CIMA Strategic Enterprise Management (SEM) survey reported difficulties in integrating information from different systems. When it came to performance reporting, 57% rated their systems as average or poor.

Only controlling costs, mentioned by 83% of respondents, rated higher as a major concern than information systems (73%).

The SEM study provides a thorough analysis of the priorities and activities of the finance function, and highlights the role that technology plays. In order of importance, the tasks that finance managers perform are:
