29 May: Sheila Fraser appointed vice-chair of IFRS Foundation

The Trustees of the IFRS Foundation have today announced that the Monitoring Board has approved the appointment of Sheila Fraser as Vice-Chair of the Trustees and confirmed the reappointments of three other Trustees.

Fraser is the former Auditor General of Canada. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant, a former partner of Ernst & Young.  She has served as a public member of the International Federation of Accountants’ International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IFAC-IPSASB) and sits on the independent audit advisory committee of the UN Development Programme.

May 26: Critchleys name five new partners

Critchleys have promoted five existing employees to partner. Between them they already have 75 years of service with the firm.

“We are always keen to tap into our existing talent and we are therefore very pleased that all five have accepted their offer of partnership,” said Chris Bell, chairman of Critchleys.

The five are Kathryn Pocock, Caroline Webster, Andrew Rodzynski, Lawrence King, Katy Bruce – Partner (Corporate Finance).

22 May: EY announces expansion of UK legal services team with further senior appointments

EY has today announced the appointment of two new partners to its UK legal services practice.

Senior corporate lawyers Paul Devitt and Richard Thomas will both be joining EY as partners from Addleshaw Goddard next year. Both will be based in Manchester.

These latest hires follow a number of recent appointments to EY’s UK legal services business. Since acquiring an ABS licence in December, the team has grown to over 25 people and is set to expand further over the next two years.

22 May: Albert Goodman merges Somerset accountancy practice

Somerset-based chartered accountants Albert Goodman has merged with local accountancy firm TP Lewis; the practice is now trading as Albert Goodman Lewis. The merger brings the staff tally to 240.

The business is part of the Albert Goodman group which is a member of Praxity – the world’s largest alliance of independent accountancy firms.

“We have an ambitious growth strategy involving organic growth and merging with smaller practices that add value. TP Lewis is a perfect fit; it has a solid reputation and the same client service ethos,” Albert Goodman Managing partner, David Griffin
