The  government has a once in a generation opportunity to redesign the way the public services are delivered and to develop more streamlined processes that produce far greater value for money, writes CIMA’s chief executive Charles Tilley.

When George Osborne closes his eyes in bed at night, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the phrase ‘doing more with less’ is burned into the inside of his eyelids, particularly after the Budget he just delivered. Simply thinking about the government’s economic task ahead is enough to give anyone a headache. The work of actually finding an effective, sustainable, solution to reducing the fiscal deficit is probably one of the greatest challenges that any British chancellor has ever had to face.
