Why aren’t Excel Add-ins delivering better reports? By David Carter.

In the corporate world Excel add-in reporting tools such as XLCubed and Intelligent Apps have been enormously successful. Most of us prefer Excel for analysing our data, so why haven't these products made more of an impact in the mid-range?

If you go into Excel Zone you will see ads for a couple of packages called XLCubed and o2olap. These are just two of the numerous Excel add-in reporting tools that have come onto the market over the last 3 or 4 years.

They are called add-ins because they work within Excel, which users know and love already. And they can summarise (or cube) thousands of transactions into a single on-screen report, then allow you to analyse (slice and dice) the data in any way you want.
