Cloud computing - good or bad

Well it has been a good week.  I started my practice in anger a couple of years back and it has been hard work but we are getting there.  One of the biggest challenges has been IT.  Making sure the laptop is backed up and keeping IRIS upto date was one of them.  I remember one afternoon spending three hours on the telephone to IRIS doing an upgrade - a nightmare.

Well I found the answer earlier this month - Cloud computing.  It is amazing.  No server based maintenance agreements, no spending time discussing SQL  with IRIS, no making sure that logmebackup works (it never seemed to by the way) and the whole thing is about three times as quick as my  previous server which was based 2 yards from my laptop.  Now I can go on IRIS from anywhere with an internet connection and print at the local printer on the client premises without reference to IT support people - you can tell I like it!  If you want more info give me an email or contact me via www.accounting-outsourcing.co.uk/  As regards my top tips on the issue - only one.  Pick a supplier who understands the accountancy profession.

Other than that life has been good.  My two newly qualifieds are coming on stream big time.  Dan Kaye is out there selling and wowing clients with his magnetic personality and Yogesh Thakrar (in Ahmedabad) stopped me from making a bad mistake on a striking off application.   Life with good staff could not be any better.

Well that is it for me - Friday night and off out for a run with a friend.  He knows nothing about Cloud computing, striking off applications or anything related to accountancy.  No wonder he is well adjusted!
