Friday 15 May

I should have taken the day off. I was exhausted and I did not get much work done. I tried to but I made too many errors.

I invited a woman in our office block to lunch. We had 1.5 hour lunch in our office. My employee join us as well. It was fun. I was not getting much work done so I thought best I do what I love most!

I cannot afford to have many days like today.

Wednesday 13 May

I think we have made our office too comfortable for clients and potential clients. I had two potential client meetings today. They would not leave! One client asked for a second cup of tea. Not only this, she took her shoes off and put her foot on the chair she was sitting on.

I think, I will use the trick that I use to as an employee. After 40 mins into the meetings, ask my employee to remind me that I have another meeting in 10 minutes. This way, meetings would not last longer than an hour.

Pavement sign should be ready by the end of the week. I am looking forward it.

Our hard copy brochures are well received. Same goes for our branded mugs.

Tuesday 12 May

I feel good today since I had a great night sleep yesterday.

I had a productive day. In the main working on marketing activities. The hours just flew.

I sent a mail out to 25 new businesses in my area. I had to remind myself, how to mail merge. It is easy. I was meaning to do all this for the past few weeks. I made the time today.

I also did further work on the pavement sign.

I have not got round to looking at the day to day. I will before my employees leaves!

Monday 11 May

Busy busy busy Monday.

My morning started off with a potential client meeting. I thought it went well. I will be surprised if he does not become our client.

The rest of the day was taken up in agreeing which design would be best for the pavement sign and reading the first draft of a series of information leaflets that I intend to have. These will be branded leaflets.

This first one we are working on is on VAT. The first draft of the content needed improvement. I sent my comments to the copywriter. I hope the second draft will be the final draft. They take up my time!

I worked some of Saturday and some of Sunday. I want to get all the marketing projects completed before my employee leaves. I do not think I will have the time once he is out of the door.

Overall, I am pleased with the progress of the practice. Client base is building. I wish it were a lot faster. My marketing is working.

Licence

You will need a licence from the highway authority for a pavement sign unless the pavement is unadopted. Not all authorities will grant a licence and may simply remove your sign.

More than you can chew

Now that your only employee is moving on to pastures new and you have not yet conscripted a new indentured servant who is going to be carrying out all this work generated by your marketing efforts?

Mondays will get an awful lot busier unless you focus on recruiting some quality staff (preferably paid ones).

Thursday 14 May

I could not post today's post on OP because of Mollom block.

I am pleased a client who I met on Monday, signed up today. What is interesting is that they requested to move to Xero. They are currently using QuickBooks. The director has bought an existing running franchise.

I asked him why he wanted to move. His said that QB is not user-friendly. I think, it is more a training issue and not QB. Further, he is taken by Xero’s marketing. Unfair on QB.

I heard Xero’s advert on the radio! They will dominate the market. It is concerning. Once a software company dominates the market, they use their power to inflate their profits. IRIS is an excellent example.. Let's face it Xero is in business to make money.

Two potential clients I met yesterday, both agreed to become our clients. Mind you the fee level is nothing to sing and dance about. I hope both the clients will grow with me enabling me to increase the fees.

How things have changed, just two years ago, my fees were so much higher.

Brochure

Firstab have you had a full printed brochure done for all your services? I was leaning towards getting a nice folder with business card attached then a series of inserts printed to tailor each pack to the prospect.

Information in our brochure

Hello Glennzy, our brochure has the following info:

Page 1 - Info about practice

Page 2 - Info about our transparent fees and fee packages

Page 3 - Kosher tax savings

Page 4 - Startups, how we can help

Page 5 - Xero

Page 6 - Limited companies and VAT

Pages 7 - 10 What the fees are and what is included in each fee package.

It is a good balance of text and pictures. Another accountant came to our office block and grabbed the brochure from one of the tenants! I have worked hard on the brochure, I can guess what will happen.

The brochure has been very well received,

Best to go for neat booklet/brochure.
