Hello folks. After many many years of not studying, I sat my CIOT advisory paper today.

Bottom line. I will not get through. I am okay with this.

I was not fully ready for the exam since I did not have sufficient time to cover the material.

I have learnt a lot in the short space of time. I will carry on and resit the paper in November.

Short blog since blogging from my mobile.

I studied AAT and later ACCA quite a few years ago when I was an employee and I lived with my parents. Consequently, I had a lot of spare time during evenings, weekends and also could take several weeks away from work on study leave.

Now I have my own firm (albeit a very small one) and my own place, I couldn't imagine studying again, particularly something as hard as CIOT.

Good luck!

Just a thought, FirstTab: don't you think CTA is overkill for general practitioners like us?

Comparing it to general accountancy, I use a tiny fraction of what I learned in the ICAEW exams.

If I had the time to study now, I would do ATT. Could you transfer to that from the CTA course?

That sounds much too sensible for FT. Sorry FT!

I personally don't think the syllabus is overkill - Virtually everything on there is relevant for a small practitioner (unlike say ACA).

The exams are very difficult, but the bite-sized snippets of knowledge within the syllabus that can (hopefully) be remembered aren't too complex .
