I've been blogging under the alias of Flying Scotsman and have been waiting a long time to meet her. I have just done so at Eccles railway station . Must admit to being surprised at only 20 people turning out but perhaps they went to Manchester which I avoided as I reckoned the crowds would be too large and she only stops for 2 minutes.

Or are people getting tired of the drip drip drip updates.....Not  I !

My alias was inspired by the wonderful A1 Tornado which I have travelled with and seen a number of times, the most recent being on the Dawlish coastal wall where she sped past at 60+ MPH just a few feet away. There is only a 4 foot high wall there between the path and the track and you are down and close to the wheels. Curiously, the sea was dead calm before she arrived and the instant she passed, the sea became very choppy and stayed like that all day. Part of the magic and mystery that these wonderful machines exude.

I have preferred, however, to use an avatar that represents my tendency to ruffle feathers and make people think.
