Black Friday: Get it while it's hot

The day after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday. It is seen as the official start of Christmas shopping season and is marked by extreme discounts. Leave it to our American cousins to attain the zenith of commercial zealousness, I guess.

But it’s not just America: Like many things that begin in the US, the phenomenon has spread to the UK in recent years. Last year saw frantic scenes in many stores across the UK as shoppers reverted to a proto-human state in their brutal competition for deals.

After all the violence last year, things are a little calmer this time. Consumers are favouring online shopping: Easier, cleaner and less chance of being flattened by someone chasing a 50 inch plasma TV.

Today isn’t just about consumer electronics, though. For the accountant looking to buy, there are a few deals today, too. Want a Sage 50 accounts 12 month sub? Get yourself fifty percent off. CCH have 30% off everything! Xero has up to 75% off! Tax Insider has 66% off for annual subscriptions to all their publications.

The deals won’t just be on Black Friday. Some, like Receipt Bank, will be hosting Christmas specials.

So if you’re thinking about kitting out your practice just before the madness of SA season envelops you, there are some good deals floating around today.

Have you spotted any more deals? Drop a line in the comment section.

Nonsense

Typical marketing: They put prices up before Black Friday so they can say that they are offering big savings but it's all lies.

So you won't be partaking, then?

That's fair enough, Peter. Is there a particular time of year you buy new products? Or do you just buy them as and when you need them/decide to change?

Definately not

I buy what I need when I need it.

.

The Xero offer of 3 months at 25% is considerably worse than the previous offer of 12 months at half price.

Never buy in the sales

I never buy in sales. My view is that sales are full of the crap that cannot be sold at full price.

This probably stems from teenage years when I went to the Next sale with 'cooler' mates and ended up spending all my spare cash on such delights as a lime green hoody - which never saw the light of day again.

I guess this could be a bit contrary to mainstream opinion, but there you go.
