August has been a very frustrating month, as I have struggled to move a lot of things on.
I have about 6 sets of accounts in draft waiting for information or sign off with the clients but cannot get to the information I need as people are either too busy as about to go on holiday, are on holiday or have just come back and busy catching up.
I have also been involved in 2 potentially big advisory jobs which i had hoped would be complete which are now delayed through matters outside my control. I had tried to be creative with my pricing on one of the jobs and agreed a success fee if the finance was raised, everything is agreed in principal but again it all should been signed off in July. I might have to re think this sucess pricing as would have preferred to be paid as I went with the benefit of hingsight. I need to stop attending these "how to" seminars at Accountex.
Client sign has also dropped off this month with just 2 new contractors on in August.
I am still on the hunt for a retiring practice which is proving more difficult than anticipated.
I suspect a change of tactic is needed instead of trawling the agents looking for stuff for sale I need to maybe start approaching the ones that I fancy directly.
To utilise my down time I managed to attend a full 2 day structured social media course, which was certainly worthwhile. I only thought you could do about 10% of what you actually can do.
I will certianly be stepping up my social media presence in the coming months.
In the end I thought I might as well join everyone else and popped the notes on MTD in my trusty bag and popped off to Northumberland for the last 2 weeks. I am sitting on my decking with a beer over looking the lake as I write this now.
I would post a picture if I knew how to on the new website.
Happy Days.
