The editorial team at AccountingWEB can hardly believe it's June already! To kick the month off, here's the lowdown on what we'll be writing (or indeed speaking about, given our ramped-up video and audio work) during the next few weeks.

Profitable practice and start-up guides

This month sees the beginning of an entire summer's worth of training, advice and CPD for practitioners, starting with our new Practice Profitability guide. This 16-page PDF includes practical suggestions and advice from industry experts on eight different areas where you could boost your performance, including Steve Pipe on value-added services, Mark Lee on marketing and Nigel Harris on outsourcing.

Hot on its heels later this month will be the latest edition of our hugely popular Start up in practice guide. It takes a similar format, but focuses in particular on the issues that face practitioners at this early stage. If you have started your own firm, or are thinking of doing so, it's an essential read.

Expertise included in the guide includes Paul Shrimpling, Paul Dunn and the ever-present Mark Lee, our special adviser for newbie practitioners.

Practice Excellence Programme

Our set of PDF guides are just the first shot in an evolving package that we now refer to as the Practice Excellence Programme.

We've build on previous years' Practice Excellence Awards and added new features. So the client survey has been refined into a broader Client Satisfaction Recognition Scheme that gives accounting firms of all sizes a way to benchmark their client satisfaction levels against firms across the UK. The process is more rigourous than in previous years and will compare results against. Those firms who achieve 90%+ satisfaction ratings will also be entitled to display a client satisfaction excellence rating on their marketing materials.

Firms that achieve this level will also be interested in entering the Practice Excellence Awards, which include new categories including innovative firm of the year, trainee of the year and payroll champion. The prizes will be given out at the end of a one-day Practice Excellence conference we are holding in November around the theme of preparing for growth. It'll be at a central London venue, cost £99 a head and be run in a workshop-style format, with innovative speakers and a plan to takeaway from the day.

Auto enrolment preparation

Something we'll really be focusing on this month is preparation for auto enrolment. We can't give away too much right now, but watch the site for our exciting news.
