AccountingWEB ads are going native

AccoutingWEB’s community assistant sets the scene on a slight change in the site’s layout that you may notice in the next few weeks.

Before long regular visitors to the AccountingWEB homepage may notice an extra picture story. To prepare you for this event, we thought it might be helpful to explain what it is and why we are introducing it.

When it appears the new position will be marked with a small yellow panel signalling that it’s sponsored content. These positions will be occupied by respected advertising partners who we think can be trusted to promote useful content and technical advice that has already been featured elsewhere on the site.

This presentation is part of a long term in the industry that goes by the name of “native advertising”. Some members may view the change with suspicion, but we think the intrusion will not spoil your experience of AccountingWEB, but my even help to increase the benefits you get from using the site.

One of the things that set AccountingWEB apart is the way we often collaborate with our advertisers to ensure that the content they produce is interesting and relevant to members. This material is usually tucked away on our Suppliers page, but the whitepapers and news announcements you see there will now get an opportunity to be featured more prominently on the home page.

Anyone who regularly visits the Supplier’s directory will already know that they often publish information that is packed with useful insights, advice and industry news rather than brazen sales pitches.

As more readers access AccountingWEB through their smart phones, we need to find a way to embrace advertising vehicles to help fund the site.  Smaller mobile screen sizes mean there is less space for advertising. By implementing native advertising and collaborating with our advertisers, AccountingWEB can deliver appropriate advertising in this smartphone era without losing our editorial integrity.

So when the native ads appear, be assured that you will continue to get the same content as usual with non-intrusive and transparent advertising that should be relevant and beneficial for you to read.

I know I am getting older but I hope that I can still read words (including tax legislation) and make sense of them. I am sure my clients hope the same.

Before I start to think that I am losing my marbles, could some one please explain this paragraph to me:

So when the native ads appear, be assured that you will continue to get the same content as usual with non-intrusive and transparent advertising that should be relevant and beneficial for you to read.

Translation

Sorry that sentence did not convey our intentions clearly enough. We will review our use of vocabulary and grammar internally. In the meantime, does this work for you as a condensed version?

"We think you might be interested in the stuff that is featured in the links with the little yellow 'Sponsored' panel."

Erm... no.

I think you can safely write me off as a lost cause.

But thank you for trying.

I was with you for the first part of the sentence (apart from not knowing what 'stuff' you are referring to) but I really don't know what  "the little yellow 'Sponsored' panel." means.
