From the 26th-28th March this year, I’m hosting the first ever annual Progressive Practice Summit.

Over 3 days, I’m bringing together 16 (myself included) of the UK’s leading experts, thought-leaders and influencers in accountancy to share their latest insights and strategies with you.

The goal?

To help you build a progressive and future-proof accountancy practice that thrives in the years to come.

If you’re crazy enough to have not already registered, then you can book your free ticket here.

And if you have registered, then you might be wondering…

What can you do to ensure that you get the most out of the summit during the 3 days it’s on.

Fear no more, our expert speakers have got you covered!

Check out some of their tips, tricks and strategies below:

Amanda C Watts – The Client Attraction Blueprint: How to attract & retain high-value clients

Only come along to the summit if you’re planning on taking action, otherwise it’s pointless. Make sure that you attend the sessions live and engage with the speakers, ask them questions and take notes. Close down your emails and get focused.

You can find out more about Amanda’s presentation in this interview here.

Ed Molyneux – The Rise Of The Robot: Accountancy At The Crossroads

Attend as much as you can. It’s easy to sit in the office and get on with work. You need to broaden your perspective and consume the breadth of content in order to make your mind up about the direction you want to go.

Dan Richards – Whose Client Is It Anyway?

Have an idea of what you want to get out of the summit before you start. Identify what your priorities are as a firm and focus on those sessions. Use a traffic light system to help you prioritise what happens after the summit – green things are the ones you implement right away, amber are the things you implement in the next 6 months and red things are for the future.

Trent McLaren - Why You Should View Technology As An Employee

Look at the agenda, identify what your top 3 pain points are right now and then register for those sessions. Get your entire team to sign up and attend. They will all have different interests and will be attracted to different sessions. The most important thing is to create an action plan for once the summit has finished – identify what you will do in week 1, week 2, week 3 etc.

Paul Surtees – The Bank Manager Is Dead

Engage with the speakers, ask questions and be curious. All of the speakers are leaders in their respective fields. Make the most of your time with them and don’t be afraid to get involved.

Mark Wickersham - How To Get Better Prices With Value Pricing In 3 Easy Steps

Book time out for the sessions and make sure you clear your calendar and diary.  Don’t have your emails open, it’s easy to check them and next thing you know 30 minutes has gone by, close them down. Treat it as if you were there in person 100% focused. Take notes, and make a decision before the end of the summit about what your actions will be.

Steve Pipe - How To Become One Of The World’s Most Inspiring And Profitable Accountants

In this event I’ll be sharing the same content I get paid to travel around the world and share on stages. Don’t think any less because this event is free. Value it properly, get your entire team to register, and make sure the dates & times are in your diary. Most importantly, put a meeting in your diary after the summit for all attendees to compare notes and create an action plan.

Mark Lee - Be ReMARKable And Show You Are More Than Just Another Accountant

Check out the programme before and decide which sessions you want to attend live. Figure out what questions you’d like to ask the speakers. Also, check out the speakers before the summit. Connect with them on Linkedin and let them know you’ll be in the audience. You never know, you might pick up some extra tips as a result!

Karen Reyburn – The Marketing Map: What Marketing Actions, In What Order, To Get You Where You Want To Be

With this kind of event it’s easy to get information overload. Look at the topics and make an effort to understand who is speaking. Ask yourself, do I have a connection with this speaker? Often the topic can sound amazing, but you might not connect with the speaker. Check them out on social media, check out some of the other stuff they’ve done and see if they fit in with your philosophy.

Paul Dunn – There’s Never Been A Time Like This: Shifting The Spirit Of Your Firm With Business Advisory Services

First of all make sure that you’re registered. Second of all, how you turn up is important. All of the speakers on this summit are concerned about the profession and your role in it. You need to turn up and give it 100%.

You can find out more about Paul’s presentation in this interview here.

Tony Margaritelli – Compliance Or Advisory: The Future’s Bright, The Future’s Digital

Get the schedule and pick out the ones that you think are important. Book on to them and don’t miss them. When the summit is on, get yourself in a good space. Take phones out of the room, get yourself a pen and paper and be available to fire off questions and get answers from the speakers. Most importantly, attend!

You can find out more about Tony’s presentation in this interview here.

Paul Shrimpling – How To Start And Build Your Firms Business Advisory Skills, Fees & Profits

Whatever time you decide to invest in this summit, block out the same amount of time post-summit to implement 1 or 2 things within 48 hours max. If you’re going to invest time in the summit, invest in implementation. Block the time off in your diary to do it, otherwise it’s just a wish list!

You can find out more about Paul’s presentation in this interview here.

James Ashford – How To Be More Valuable To Your Clients & Get Paid More For It

Commit to the time and shut yourself off from the rest of the world. Use this time to grow your business and move things forwards. Make sure that you play all out. Take meaningful action during the event. All you need to do is take the first step.

So in summary, what are the key things you should do to get the most out of the summit?

Here are my top 5 points:

  1. Register – if you haven’t already done so, do it here right now.
  2. Block the time out in your diary and add it in your calendar.
  3. Identify what sessions are most relevant to you right now and register for those. If it isn’t a priority for your practice right now, then leave it.
  4. ATTEND! Ask questions and be engaged.
  5. Take action and implement! Otherwise, what’s the point?
