The past few years have ushered in a new way of working for people across the country. A survey by The Home Office Life showed that 52% of business leaders believe that hybrid working is the most supportive environment for employee productivity and 53% of business leaders believe hybrid working helps employees better manage the costs associated with work. Additionally, fifty of the biggest UK employers have said they have no plans to return all staff to the office full-time in the near future. And there are many reasons for this.

  1. Recruitment

There’s plenty of fish in a pond, but way more in the sea! When hiring remote workers, you can cast your net over a much larger area. You’re not confined to people who are in the area or within commutable distance, you can hire people from all over the country (heck, the world even!), meaning you get more applications and higher-quality candidates that previously would have been out of your reach. Offering hybrid working as part of the recruitment process means you are more attractive to these candidates.

  1. Saving space

More people online means fewer people in the office which means less space needed to run your business. And space costs money! Even more so with everything increasing in price. Before, if you needed to have a team meeting you would need a space big enough to accommodate everyone in the same room. Now, with cloud software, you can have multiple people on a call online and the only space you need is for your computer and somewhere to stretch your legs. Research has also shown that workers prefer a hybrid working model, and being able to access meetings from the comfort of your own home reduces your overheads and improves the mental well-being of your staff, increasing staff retention.

  1. Employee retention

Speaking of staff retention, most businesses that post new job listings are offering some sort of hybrid working opportunities because it’s one of the biggest attractions for today's workforce. In fact, in the same survey mentioned above 78% of those who worked from home in some capacity said that being able to work from home gave them an improved work-life balance. Happier employees mean more loyal employees who are more likely to stay!

Not only is it good for the body and soul to not spend so much time in the office, but working from home with the right setup also improves job satisfaction. Take, for example, BrightPay’s multi-user functionality - it allows multiple users to simultaneously work together online which allows you to collaborate effortlessly with your team without being stuck in a stuffy office! The processes are so seamless that it increases efficiency and output.

  1. Scalability

When space restrictions do not confine you then the world is your oyster! You can increase the size of your business with minimal financial impact as not only can you host meetings and workspaces online, but you can store all of your data online in the cloud too, negating the need for filing cabinets (remember those!), desks and the like. The cloud is a resource with almost infinite capacity, so as your business grows, it grows with you.

  1. Environmental Impact

Not only does remote working have all the above benefits, but it can also help to save the planet! How so? Well, just think about the carbon footprint office workers have when commuting into the office. Not only are you reducing carbon emissions by not using vehicles to get to and from work, but when you’re in the office, there’s energy needed to heat the building, run the equipment, light the building - I could go on… The first thing that springs to mind is how many trees are saved annually by not having to print out reams of documents for meetings. When all this information is stored centrally and easily accessible to anyone in the business to view online, not only are you saving the trees but you’re saving money too, not just on paper but on the inks and cartridges too.

Cloud software is the glue that holds all this together, so if your business has a dependable and multifunctional cloud software solution that enables you to run your business in today’s ever-changing post-pandemic climate then it’s worth its weight in gold.
