August 16th 2012, Exmouth - Digita software, part of the Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters and one of Exmouth’s major employers, has thrown its support and cash behind a campaign to put defibrillators in every school in the county. The company has donated the funds needed to provide a defibrillator and train 8 members of staff at Exmouth Community College. It will be the second machine to be given to local schools under the campaign.

The company, which develops award-winning software for tax and accountancy practices in the UK and Ireland, decided to support the campaign after learning about local boy Luke Buck and his love of sport. Luke suffers from bouts of pneumonia and has supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) which can result in cardiac arrest. His mother, Helen, started the campaign when she discovered twelve pupils die in schools every week from heart related problems.

Handing over the life-saving machine to Graham Allen, Deputy Principal at the Community College, Digita’s Managing Director, Andrew Flanagan said: “We are pleased to support Helen’s campaign to introduce defibrillators into as many schools as possible across the county.”

Helen commented: “It is important that local businesses see the value of these life-saving machines for every school. We continually hear about children suffering cardiac attacks while at school. There are no prior symptoms; it could be caused from anything, from a choke to a blow on the heart. The more machines we install, and the more people we train, the more young lives we can help to save.”
