How to prepare your practice for GDPR
As part of the celebrations for BTCSoftware’s launch of their own Cloud Solution (which comprises all their popular tax, accounting and practice management software in a secure Cloud environment), the company has co-written a handy guide with MyDocSafe.
The guide gives practical tips to smaller accountancy firms on how to prepare for the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) which come into force in May 2018. It includes guidance on:
- Understanding what constitutes personal data
- The importance of obtaining consent under the GDPR
- The rights of data subjects – clients, contacts, staff etc
- The importance of system security, given the GDPR’s hefty fines for data breaches.
…and gives smaller firms a handy checklist on how to get GDPR-ready.
Secure GDPR-friendly software
BTCSoftware’s new Cloud software products have been built with security of data firmly in mind. Data held in the software is located in a secure UK-based Amazon data centre with two sophisticated layers of security in place.
The software integrates with MyDocSafe to allow users to send documents securely for approval from clients directly from their practice management console, saving time and resources. MyDocSafe’s encrypted document storage, e-signature and client portal technology form part of the DNA of a modern, cloud enabled, and cyber-security aware accounting practice.
The BTCSoftware new Cloud offering avoids the need for an accountancy practice to invest in, or maintain, a server, hardware support, operating system updates or back-up of their data. Everything is taken care of via the Cloud provision. Back-ups of data are performed automatically twice a day with a minimum 14days of data retention.
