The 2024/25 tax year is only a few days away, and with it comes a whole host of changes. However, one of the most frustrating and critical things to keep on top of throughout the tax year is all the deadlines that accompany it. From Companies House changes coming in a couple of weeks to the big Self Assessment deadline at the end of January. 

Keeping these dates marked in your Teams/Google calendars, in your practice management software, or even bookmarking this article, can help ensure that you’re organised and staying on top of the key dates throughout the year. 

Key dates for the 2024/25 tax year 

April 

May 

  • 5th of MayCompanies House fees are increasing due to the recent introduction of the ECCTA 
  • 31st of May – Deadline for P60s for employees who were on your payroll on the 5th of April 2024 

July 

  • 6th of July – Deadline to submit P11Ds and P11D(b)s to HMRC, and for copies of P11Ds to be sent to employees 
  • 19th of July – Payment deadline by cheque for Class 1A National Insurance owed on expenses or benefits for the previous tax year 
  • 22nd of July – Online payment deadline for Class 1A National Insurance owed on expenses or benefits for the previous tax year 
  • 31st of July – Deadline for second ‘payment on account’ for the tax year 

Please note: If your P11D(b) is submitted late, you’ll get a penalty of £100 per 50 employees for each month. You’ll also be charged penalties and interest if you’re late paying HMRC. 

October 

  • 5th of October – Deadline for self-employed individuals to register for Self Assessment with HMRC 
  • 19th of October – Payment deadline by cheque for all tax and Class 1B National Insurance owed, if you’ve a PAYE Settlement Agreement 
  • 22nd of October – Online payment deadline for all tax and Class 1B National Insurance owed, if you’ve a PAYE Settlement Agreement 
  • 31st of October – Deadline for paper Self Assessment submissions for the 2023/24 tax year 

December 

January 

  • 31st of January – Self Assessment deadline for the 2023/24 tax year
