Oliver Prill will lead the next phase of development at Tide as chief executive.

Oliver Prill

Having taken the company to a strong initial position and built an outstanding team, Tide’s founder, George Bevis, has decided to step back to allow Olivere Prill to lead the next phase of development as chief executive.

Originally from Hamburg, Prill has strong ties to the UK as he studied and lived here for over ten years. Prill has joined Tide from online lender Kreditech, where he helped to turn the business into a leading global fintech as chief operating officer.

Before that, Prill spent 20 years in leadership positions in financial services: “Throughout my career, I’ve always taken roles that put me at the forefront of problem solving and I’m excited about the way fintechs are revolutionising the dated banking industry,” he said.

“In my opinion, Tide is the only fintech that is truly putting small businesses first and the potential to make a meaningful impact is huge. SME banking, is crying out for change and Tide is perfectly placed to deliver it.”

Passion for helping small businesses

Prill has worked with small business owners for most of his career and is aware that smaller firms don’t have time to focus on banking and admin.

“The big banks have never really focused on small business,” said Prill. “To them, small business is just side business, which leads to poor service, products and processes. Many other banking challengers are falling into similar trap of trying to serve small businesses on the side of their core consumer businesses.”

Going forward

In the short term, Tide will be adding an exciting set of new features, including international currency accounts and multi-user access. Member communication will be key in the next few months to ensure their needs are addressed. “Longer term, the ambition is to take Tide international,” Prill added.
