Understanding UK Government Support

The UK Government has announced various schemes to help businesses overcome the financial challenges of the coronavirus, including:

  • Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme to reimburse furloughed employees for 80% of wages (up to £2,500 per month) who, due to coronavirus impacts, would otherwise have lost their jobs
  • Business rates holiday (for specific industries) to provide 1-year relief and help ease the impact of coronavirus
  • Income Tax and VAT payment deferral to allow businesses to delay Income Tax self-assessment payments from July 2020 to January 2021, and suspend VAT payments between 20th March and 30th June to the end of the tax year
