Cloud Accounting Software

Nowadays there are so many software options to choose from. With so much new technology being released, it makes sense that users are tempted to go with the ones that boast the latest and greatest features.

At Pandle, we believe that developing new innovative features is always important but that simplicity is just as important. This means that we’re not into fancy, overly complicated features because we’ve found that most users simply don’t need them.

While large companies with tons of different departments and complex needs may very well benefit from software that addresses their specific requirements, for the typical small business owner or freelancer, the need for simplicity is king.

Simple apps leading the way

It’s not just cloud accounting users that can benefit from simplicity. Taking a look at other industries, it’s clear to see that there’s a preference towards apps that value simplicity and ease of use over traditional tools.

Let’s take Google Docs as an example. For years Microsoft Office was everyone’s go-to for word processing and database management. Then came along Google Docs with the same features but with cloud functionality. It addressed a simple need, of wanting information on the go that’s easy to share.

Google Docs is particularly popular with younger people, the future entrepreneurs accountants have to cater for. A study from Creative Strategies found that while Microsoft Word was still popular for individual projects (80% use it for this), Google Docs was more widely used for collaborative projects. 78% regularly choose Google to create documents that needed to be shared or collaborated on.

Another example is Slack, the instant messaging app. As of 2017, Slack has grown to having more than 6 million daily users.

For some, email is outdated. With Slack, you can send messages to groups, to individuals, exchange documents quickly and see who’s online. There’s no more worrying about mixing up Bc and Cc as you can just post what you need to in the relevant chat. This is particularly useful if you find yourself communicating over long-standing issues with the same people.

That’s not to say that Microsoft Office or Email are dead. Far from it, but this growing preference for simple apps that address modern needs such as being able to use the cloud is definitely worth noting for any business.

How this fits into accounting

Bookkeeping for many business owners is a necessary evil. They’d rather be doing anything but it.

We believe that easy to use cloud accounting software can make the process of bookkeeping less of a daunting prospect for users without a background in accounting.

This helps to encourage good record keeping on the client’s part which makes life easier for their accountants as records are more likely to be kept up to date and with fewer errors.

Machine learning and automation

Employing the latest technologies can help keep the simple things just that; simple.

We already use artificial intelligence in our everyday lives with smartphone apps like personal assistants, spam filters on emails, fraud prevention in banks, personalised newsfeeds in social media and search engine results.

Applying similar technology to accounting and bookkeeping only makes sense. AI is already starting to automate more tedious, labour-intensive tasks such as data entry and the need to manually check through documents.

For example, instead of manually inputting transactions, an automatic bank feed can pull transactions straight from a bank account.

This reduces the amount of errors that can occur due to manually inputting information which is good news for accountants as they won’t have to spend time cleaning up a ton of mistakes.

Simple, automatic processes in Pandle

Besides our Bank Feeds feature, we also use automation to help our users manage invoices. Pandle is programmed to send automatic payment reminders to chase up unpaid invoices to help users keep on top of cash flow.

If a user needs to send the same invoices to customers on a regular basis, then Pandle can automate this process too with our Customer Grouping feature.

We’ve also used automation to help those who work with different currencies. Typically, software users would have to set up separate bank feeds for each currency. With Pandle, you’ll automatically get a series of sub-accounts for each currency in a handy drop down menu.
