We recently spoke with Josh Town, document management expert and U.K. Sales representative for Doc.It.  Josh works with accountancy firms of all sizes who want to reduce paper-based operations by automating tax, and accounting processes.

Tell us a bit more about Doc.It

JT:  Doc.It® was founded in 2001, by accountants who understood both accountancy and technology, and were keen on providing software solutions to North American accounting firms and their practitioners.

The flagship product, Doc.It Suite,  provides document management, storage, workflow and web portal tools that enable accountancy firms to work more efficiently together, and to provide fast, reliable client services. Doc.It is unique in that it integrates with many popular accounting applications, so firms can operate in a cohesive environment.

Tell us about your role at Doc.It.  What appealed to you about the company?

JT: Having both an interest and background in IT, the fact that Doc.It was a software company doing some interesting work in a growing market was appealing in itself. The more I learnt about Doc.It, the clearer it became that it would be a fantastic fit for me. Between their passion for customer support, innovation and of course the people they have – what’s not to love?  Initially, I began in a more technical role at Doc.It. but after a year or so, I started delving into Account Management. As part of the Account Management role, I was exposed more and more to the Sales & Marketing side of Doc.It and that is where I find myself today. I enjoy the daily interaction with the best accounting firms in the business.  I get to assist them in reaching their goals, and I always learn from my clients as well.

Now Doc.It has an active presence in the UK. Are the challenges that UK firms are facing similar to those in North America?

JT: I think the challenges are certainly similar, if not identical. Any firm is always looking to improve, in order to grow their business. We know that use of document management systems has increased exponentially over the last 5 years (now used in 8/10 firms) which shows a growing awareness that there is certainly a smarter way to work.

What’s new on the horizon at Doc.It?

JT: We have a lot coming this year! New additions to the flagship product, Doc.It Suite, include DocuSign integration, a brand new Portal with increased functionality as well as a modernized backend. We have also added Doc.It Connect & Doc.It Explore which I feel are fantastic for smaller firms or those that are making their first foray into the world of document management. Today our clients run Doc.It on premise or in the cloud, with our network of hosting providers. Soon we will be offering our own cloud version of Doc.It Suite which allows accounting professionals to work in Doc.It anywhere, on any device.

What advice would you give to a firm partner who is wondering how (or whether) to implement digital document management or workflow?

JT: My advice would be to do so, without fear. I think a lot of firms fear change and it can often inhibit their progress. At Doc.it we have a fantastic implementation process which eliminates uncertainty and sets our users on the right course. After implementation, you are then in the hands of our multi award winning customer care team.

How can firms reach you?

JT: Shoot me an email at [email protected] or feel free to book a time with me using this link: https://calendly.com/joshtown
