The Bright Way (and a BBQ)
At Accountex this year, one question reigned supreme: “What does the acquisition of AM by Bright mean for AM users?” Swiftly followed by; “Wait… It’ll still be AM, won’t it?”
The short answers are: “Nothing. Just more functionality developed faster.” And “Yes.”
Bright acquired AM because of our culture and the existing relationships we have with our users through support, account management, user experience and responding to their needs. These things won’t change, they’ll only get better.
No controlling overlord, just people working together
Those of us at AM that’ve experienced acquisitions in the past have spotted a big difference with this one. Usually, an established corporation comes in with legacy ideas and processes and starts calling the shots.
Bright is a brand new entity that's made up of some of the accounting industry’s leading software companies – BrightPay, AccountancyManager, Surf and Relate. Instead of a controlling overlord, Bright is (being) built around the shared values, behaviours and best practices that have got these companies where they are today.
A BBQ at Bright HQ
Since the acquisition, teams on both sides of the Irish Sea have been getting to know each other. Each AM team – Development, Support, Sales and Marketing – has been sharing knowledge and approaches with their counterparts at BrightPay.
Many of us met up in real life at a BBQ in Duleek, an hour north of Dubin. As well as outdoor activities, sausages and (some) drinks, Paul Byrne – CEO of Bright and MD of BrightPay – and Kevin McCallum – COO of Bright and CEO of AM – shared Bright’s values with the team.
