Since the Budget, the catastrophic effect of the coronavirus has forced firms to shut their doors and roll out remote working, put businesses on their knees, and prompted the government to postpone IR35 for 12 months.

To discuss the week where COVID-19 has locked down the country and the profession, host Richard Hattersley is joined, as always, by AccountingWEB’s editor in chief John Stokdyk, who is beaming in from his Brighton-based self-isolation.

And to give us a 'from the trenches' viewpoint, we have But the Books owner Zoe Whitman, who is calling in from her Bristol HQ.

Just one week ago the government delivered its Budget, but since then the government has unveiled a £330bn "Whatever it takes" response to the economic impact of coronavirus. The response includes a 12 month delay to April’s roll out of the off-payroll reforms in the private sector.

The pod team starts by discussing the huge news from the past week before delving into how else the virus is unsettling the profession, including:

  • Talking to crisis-hit clients (what advice are they looking for and how to advise them through potential cashflow problems)
  • Dealing with the effects of the virus and the remedial measures it’s had on you and your businesses
  • Having client conversations during these self-isolation times?
  • Remaining productive and make sure nothing falls through the cracks now you’ve become a remote worker
  • Tips for coping with the challenges that lie ahead
  • And much, much more.
