In the latest in this podcast series AccountingWEB examines the millennial phenomena and asks millennial business owners about what they look for from their accountant.

While the term ‘millennial’ was cooked up back in the mid ‘80s by demographers to describe those born around the year 1982 (and therefore becoming adults in the new millennium), it is only relatively recently that the term has reached the masses.

Interest in this group of individuals has never been greater, as for millennials climbing the accountancy ladder or making their own way in business this is the time when one might expect them to be making partner, heading up larger organisations or taking their own businesses to the next level.

Over the past few years a multi-million dollar market has emerged around millennial consultancy, with expert speakers and authors telling us how to turn generational differences into an asset.

To discover what millennial accountants want from a career and what millennial clients want from their accountant, AccountingWEB spoke to a millennial practice owner, two millennial businesses and two accountancy experts focussed on the millennial market.

Speaker and author Heather Townsend wasn’t convinced that the perceived variations between the generations was as severe as portrayed in the media, but there were differences when it comes to technology, while Karbon’s Ian Vacin urged accountants to be more digital and more social to attract millennial clients.
