Eriona

Managing Director,
Major's Accounts & Co Ltd

"My name is Eriona, I started working in accounting at the tender age of 13. I worked every weekend, summer holiday, bank holiday and half-term and carried on working whilst studying for my degrees and professional qualifications.

The most rewarding aspect of being an accountant is when you have been able to help a client achieve their dreams, whether it is to be a more profitable business, to grow or be able to get a mortgage for their first house for example! The joy and excitement clients have when they thank you to me for helping them achieve their dream or goal is indescribable!

The accounting community is changing massively at the moment due to the technological advancements and it is so warming to see accountants collaborating and coming together to achieve better quality services by helping each other out, for the good of their own businesses and their client’s businesses! Long may it continue and prosper!

My biggest inspiration has been my father, who started the company 14 years ago; namely because of the work ethic he has demonstrated and instilled in me. He also has taught me that there is always a way, and that you should never say no, but find a way of helping clients to ensure they get the best service. My biggest challenge has been to show clients the benefits of adopting technology to help create efficiencies in their businesses and changing the processes we had in place traditionally when communicating with our clients and transferring data. Long gone are the days of receipts in paper bags now!

My proudest achievement so far has been implementing a digitalisation strategy, ensuring our business is now paperless! It is no small feat when turning a traditional, established business into a forward-thinking digital business, but I am SO proud to say this has been achieved and we are seeing the benefits every day! I am proud that I have been able to study for a range of different degrees (Accounting, Finance and Law) which has helped to broaden my knowledge and skills set so I can either provide advice or at least have commercial awareness of all areas of business and highlight these to my clients. I have been able to do this whilst running and transforming my business; which has meant many hours of work, but which is paying dividends now as we are able to use the latest technology and provide an even better service to our clients! All of this has been achieved by the age of 27.

I am involved in a number of different organisations such Intuit QB Accountants Council, ACCA UK Practitioners Network Panel, ACCA SME Global Forum and I am VP of the British-Albanian Business Association.

Most importantly, I have a 6 year old diva who shows me why I work so hard every day, making it all worthwhile!"
