What’s in the news

PwC has published its gender pay gap, as it has done every year since 2014. Under the government's methodology, PwC’s reports a mean gender pay gap as 13.7% and its mean bonus gap is 37.5%. (PwC)

An accounting change could benefit retailers like Amazon, Starbucks, Wal-Mart by hundreds of millions of dollars. A new revenue-recognition rule could accelerate revenue from the unredeemed portion of company-issued gift cards. (Market Watch)

ICAEW has written to the new financial secretary to the Treasury and paymaster general, Mel Stride MP, welcoming him to his new post and recommending that the Government’s immediate priority should be certainty for taxpayers. (ICAEW)

65% of taxpayers chose for their accountants to file their tax returns online, with 6,357,000 of online self-assessment tax returns being submitted by agents, and just 3,457,000  (35%) by the individuals themselves, reports PfP.

The HM Courts & Tribunal Services (HMCTS) appeal online service has now been available for the public to submit their appeal online against tax decisions made by HMRC (Gov.uk)
