It’s the most wonderful time of the year – unless you’re an accountant. In which case, you’re probably racing against the office clock whilst rushing to get all your Christmas shopping delivered in time (thanks Covid).

But AccountingWEB is here to help! We’ve compiled a wish list fit for any friend, family, or office foe (thanks Secret Santa).

Gadgets zone

To help ease those long nights spent hunched over your desk, why not give the gift of comfort this Christmas? Get your hands on an ergonomic mouse for the perpetually scrolling accountant, the perfect size for a thoughtful stocking filler.

Why not pair that with a wrist rest to complete the dream WFH office setup? The rests remove pressure off the wrists and ease the strain of hours spent clicking through spreadsheets.

With working from home becoming the norm over the course of this year, the industry has become more vulnerable than ever to becoming victims of cybercrime. IT departments can only do so much, and with more people taking cybersecurity matters into their own hands, there has never been a better time to invest in data protection. An encrypted USB memory stick is a great solution for safeguarding your most valuable personal data.

Wellbeing

With all the complaints of sleepless nights riddled with stress for the coming day, investing in some soothing treats to help with relaxation is an ideal gift for this taxing season. You can find gift boxes perfect for easing into a stress-free slumber, ideal for any overworked friends or for helping yourself catch up on some rest.

Or you could wrap up a face mask – this Tax Season mask is the perfect gift for the safety-conscious accountant.

If you really want to splash out, invest in an Essential Oil Diffuser to infuse a sense of calm and serenity into even the messiest home office.

Novelty items

Everyone knows socks are go-to Christmas present material, so why put an accounting spin on this timeless classic? Some of our favourites include the ‘I love spreadsheets’ socks and the ‘Trust me, I’m an accountant’ pair.

Or if you want to go for another stocking staple, have a look at this ‘Liquid Assets’ mug for the gift that keeps on giving.

Books

Recommended and reviewed by our very own Philip Fisher, The Glass Hotel by Emily St John Mandel tells the story of a young woman named Vincent who hails from a Canadian island off the coast of British Columbia – so remote that its main street has two dead ends.

Along the way, the author manages to “initiate those with limited knowledge into the fraudulent intricacies of Ponzi schemes”, making it the ideal read for any number-crunchers looking to avert their eyes from screens this Christmas.

Other good books include The Wolf Hall trilogy by Hilary Mantel and The Lehman Trilogy by Stefano Missini.

Food and drink

No one’s going to say no to a glass of something bubbly to see off 2020 – take your bottled gifts to the next level with a personalised flask or bottle opener – or even this ‘Because payroll’ wine glass (not that you need an excuse this Christmas).

If all else fails, everyone loves a hamper. Betty’s luxury hampers have the most decadent selections to satisfy your loved ones after all the hard work they’ve put in this year.

Or get creative. Make your own accountant gift basket with all the office essentials necessary for the New Year.

What would you suggest as the perfect present for an accountant? Let us know in the comments below.
