RSM Tenon has risen to second place in terms in a league table of merger and acquisition advisers (M&As).

The firm, which announced a loss of more than £100m last week, jumped from 20th place last year to second place this year behind Grant Thornton, which retained the top slot.

The league table of UK M&As in terms of the number of deals advised on was compiled by Experian.

Grant Thornton advised on 83 deals and RSM Tenon on 59, ahead of Rothschild with 57, BDO with 5, Deloitte with 41 and PwC with 37.

Deals that RSM Tenon has advised on this year include the sale of IGT Industries Ltd to Stadium Group Plc and the sale of Hamleys toy retailer to Groupe Ludendo for £60m.

RSM Tenon welcomed the good news, although corporate finance only accounts for 5% of the groups' revenue.

Head of corporate finance Peter Vandervelde said the M&A figures show that the group is recognised as “front runners” in the mid-sized corporate finance market.

Larger firms dominated the top of the UK table in terms of value with Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase and Morgan Stanley holding positions one to three respectively.
