Two of the most interesting categories in the Practice Excellence Awards celebrate innovation and practice growth across the profession.

Last month we welcomed in three new categories for the 2016 awards, including new firm, client service firm and small business advisory firm of the year.

Along with our usual roster of small, medium and large firms of the year, we’re pleased to see innovative firm and practice growth of the year become regulars in our annual awards stable.

Here we shine a spotlight on what these two awards are all about and advice from firms who picked up the 2015 honours.

Innovative firm of the year

If you think innovation runs through the very heart of your firm, whether that’s the technology you’ve embraced or a new approach to client service, then you need to consider entering this award.

Tell us about your approach to innovation, why it's important to your firm and most importantly provide examples of specific innovations that have benefitted your practice and clients.

The awards this year feature a new online entry process that will make the task of putting together and submitting entries easier than ever.

Shout about your success, but remember to support any claims with strong evidence to bolster your entry.

Last year Cheltenham-based Tayabali Tomlin picked up the innovative firm of the year award.

Judges commented that the firm had taken a step back to focus its efforts on advisory services, offering four different packages aimed at high-value, growing client businesses.

In addition to managing and servicing these clients with a battery of diagnostic and case control tools, it also added more than £120,000 fee revenue through the use of social media and collaborative cloud apps.

Practice growth of the year

If your firm has grown rapidly but sustainably in the past year, then this could be the category for you.

Summarise your growth strategy, provide evidence of consistency in growth over the past two-to-three years and describe any initiatives that have driven strong results.

To score favourably among the judges show an understanding of how you manage challenges associated with growth.

Last year Kinder Pocock picked up the practice growth of the year, and for that firm growth wasn’t just about the numbers. This firm embraces technology to help its existing clients grow, but also measures and sees results from its social media and blogging activity.

Kinder Pocock’s results can be seen in five years of consistent growth.

In terms of dates for your diary, entries for the awards close on 2 June and on 15 July we’ll reveal the shortlist firms and individuals.
