In a recent online poll conducted by AccountingWeb.co.uk’s US sister site, AccountingWeb.com, accounting professionals picked McCain and Palin as their top choice for the presidency.

Over a period of four and one half weeks from September 30 to October 31, 2008, 49.4 percent of readers at AccountingWEB.com, the online community for members of the accounting profession, chose McCain and Sarah Palin as their presidential and vice presidential favorites, followed by 45.4 percent who selected Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Libertarian candidates Bob Barr and Wayne Root came in third place with 3.7 percent, and less than 1 percent voted for Constitution Party candidates Chuck Baldwin and Darrell Castle, Green Party candidates Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente, and Independent Party candidates Ralph Nader and Matt Gonzalez.

As well as picking losers for the Presidential election, the majority of American accountants also preferred the defeated candidates during the primaries. A poll conducted in January showed Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Fred Thompson were the profession’s preferred presidential contestants.
