AccountingWEB.co.uk was honoured to win the Best Accountancy Media Outlet award presented at the Association of International Accountants (AIA) Founders' Lecture Awards 2012.
The prize was presented in London on Thursday night, based on a vote of AIA members on nominated outlets including Accountancy Age, Accountancyprofession.com and Financial Director.
The awards were handed out after a lively debate at St Martin's in the Field where John O'Connell and Joseph Spence set out what they would do if they were ‘Chancellor for the Day’. Robert Graham of Graham Associates was named AIA accountant of the year, and tax justice campaigner Richard Murphy was given an award for his outstanding contribution to the accountancy profession. A separate report on the event will follow shortly.
Accepting the media outlet award, AccountingWEB.co.uk editor John Stokdyk told the audience, "We're honoured and pleasantly surprised to win this award. We're almost as surprised and honoured to be sharing a platform not only with the Tax Payers' Alliance and Richard Murphy, but Christian Aid, the Labour Party and Taxation magazine. Any body that can bring together such a wide variety of people has to be going in the right direction."
AccountingWEB and the AIA shared a few characteristics, he added. "We're both membership organisations and we rely on the guidance and contributions of our members for our success."
