Thanks. I think my MD thinks if I record the grant in August, it will boost the P&L! It’s looking a little low this month (understandable due to the economy and the industry) but he thinks it will help boost the figures! ;)
Many thanks all for your help. Seems like Brightpay is a good shout. I had heard of it, but In all honesty, thought QB would be an option as everything would be in one system but I agree that stand alone systems would be preferable especially with payroll issues. Thank you all.
Hi accountantccole
Thank you for your reply. I definitely don’t feel I can do account prep so will stick to the bookkeeping for now until I gain some practice experience. (Not quite sure on that for now but an option for later)
Re, bookkeeping - just a couple things to ask if that’s okay.
1) How do I go about marketing / advertising? What’s the best way?
2) I am unclear as to price charges (planning on calling local bookkeepers in the area but unsure if that is the best approach)
3) What would I be able to do as a bookkeeper? I’m wanting to offer expenses, accounts receivable/payable and tax (once I’ve brushed up my aat tax module) Just wondering what I have missed as obviously I don’t want to offer something I can’t do.
Hi. I am not in practice (always been industry based) but finding it difficult to get into practice. My current employers have nothing in the contract that says I can’t do this so I assume I can (obviously I will only do basic work until I get a practicing certificate)
Any other tips? What exactly could I offer as a bookkeeper? Want to ensure that I am offering the full services , of which I am fully capable of providing.
Hi. Thanks for your reply. Mainly as I wanted to a) gain valuable experience within a particular field that I’m currently missing from working within industry. B) hoping to set up my own practice In the future and know practice experience will definitely help.
Thanks accountcole. In all honesty, my old manager just said the same thing about getting some experience in practice. This might help with getting the experience I’m lacking surrounding tax.
If anyone has any tips on how to get into practice (I’m under the impression it’s difficult coming from a business background).
Hi maslins. Thanks for the reply. Did you complete Cta and had you done any other qualifications beforehand ?
If not Cta, would you recommend att to gain more experience? As I’m an ACCA member, I just need the tax experience as opposed to the actual qualification and I agree, small businesses aren’t too concerned about that qualification itself but my concern is whether I could gain the tax experience just by studying or is it recommended to find a job that I can gain the actual experience with before I can consider branching out.?

That’s what I wanted to do initially but as I had already closed August month end, I wanted to avoid that.

Thank you! Will definitely look into it.
Payroll and vat returns - yes.
CIs - no.
Is there something/ somewhere you recommend that I can learn about?
What else do you think I will need To do and offer? (Want to ensure that I am offering the best paxkage)
And in terms of software, Any recommendations?
