Thanks for mentioning our new AP Solution 'tho. We are well aware there are plenty of loyal VT users out there who won't want to switch. And that's why we're happy to continue supporting the link with their final accounts.

Dear Platform PM,
There are real problems in using DropBox for any product with a live database with regular read and write access and this is why we strongly advise against using it with our PM or SA Solutions. But I believe you're actually touching on two different areas here:
Secure offsite backup of your data is a really good idea. We happen to use and recommend Mozy.com for this but there are plenty of others available.
However if you are seeking to be able to access and use your software from different locations you should look at a proper hosted solution which will also look after all your back up at the same time. Customers of ours are successfully using a number of different providers for this but the most popular is probably www.HostedAccountants.co.uk and they will be happy to provide you with further information.

At BTCSoftware we'd definitely welcome this. There are a number of key developments underway just now that should be of real benefit to our customers and this would certainly add to and help us with these.
It should also generate new ideas for additional features and enhancements in similar vein to our [email protected] email address.
I'd be interested to find out more about how it would work and what we can do to help make it truly beneficial to existing and prospective customers alike>
We agree it would be an excellent idea to publish on our website a list of up-coming developments and/or product enhancements. I'm afraid the current schedule means this not possible immediately but we'd like it in place in another couple of months.
You will also soon be seeing a significant enhancement to the FAQ section. This will be in the form of a searchable knowledge base where you will be able to find and download topic or feature -specific help-sheets.
I'd also be happy for more feedback and questions existing or potential users may have.
Getting the best from PM Solution
Thanks for raising this. At BTCSoftware we're keen that our users get to exploit all the features of our products to the fullest extent and this is especially the case with PM Solution. The first thing I'd encourage anyone in this situation to do is to book up an online demo session with our support team for you and/or your team. They will be happy to take you through all the key features on screen and I suggest you first prepare a list of key questions you want to see answered. Thereafter they will welcome as many follow ups as you need.
We are just in the process of moving to a new CRM system and a key aspect of this is the ongoing development of a whole range of help-sheets on these sorts of topics. We'd certainly be interested in peoples' thoughts and expectations on a user forum - in order to ensure we could support it with sufficient resource to make it truly effective.
You are hopefully aware of the [email protected] email route direct to our development team which is where many new product additions come from. The rule is that anything that would be of benefit to a number of users without a total redesign will get included on the list and the more that ask for it the quicker it gets included.
Currently we are nearing completion of a range of enhancements to the reporting element of PM Solution. We are also working on a measure of effort and /or time expended per client as a measure of profitability and a range of enhancements to the associated documents and letters. But continuous improvement will always remain key to what we do.

I can't pass comment on the two you mention but here at BTCSoftware we use Mozy.com extensively ourselves and happily reccomend it to our customers.
It works really well and is very reasonably priced.
Remote offisite backup is by far the best way to go. Good luck with your search.

When I went into sales an marketing all those years ago what was drummed into me in every course or training session? That you have 2 ears and 1 mouth and should use them in the same ratio! You'll never sell anything if you fail to listen to your customers. What has so depressed me about this particular crop of would-be Sugars is their total failure to do this. Not once but time and time again!
Focus group says "Don't patronise us" so come up with "How do you blow your load". Older demograhic ditto so tell them how to make a phone call. Vets say one size fits all won't work in pet food so guess what their killer idea is....
No listening skills and think you can succeed in business? Forget it!

iXBRL has certainly made us busier this year but without significant impact on support - which is especially pleasing given that this is also a busy time of year for self-assessment. HMRC reported a 99.5% success rate for March CT filings by our users. Over 75% of these were using iXBRL, and the total number of returns filed was NINE times more than for March 2010.
