Just moved to TaxCalc after 13 years with Iris.
No contest just move!
There are a small amount of things that TaxCalc doesnt do, but that Iris did - still wouldnt go back!

The local council continue to insist that she will not be taken on under PAYE, that it is an IR35 contract, not an employment contract (although she hasn't actually been issued with either) but that this is the procedure that she must use to claim her money!
I agree that they don't seem to know what they are doing, and my client has decided to leave after only this first month (the fact that this wasn't sorted before she started her work for them, and only came in to question when she wanted payment is also ridiculous) and has already got a contract in the private sector.
If this is just one client, and 1 local council apparently not playing by the rules. though - I wonder quite how many other public bodies will be facing employment law tribunals in this sort of situation!

I'm in again now - but it seems that if you want to actually submit anything (say a VAT registration for a client) it just crashes.

I've set up the two step verification, but i'm also getting the same message, so I dont think its that.
Very annoying I think!

I've just called CAAT, and they say (having first checked with a supervisor) that they do not need to have a 64-8 if you have online authorisation. However - you do need a paper 64-8 to speak to the Collector about PAYE schemes, even though you may have authorisation to speak to the accounts office!.
Unfortunately though, they don't keep a record of the online authorisations so if a client "falls off" your list - I dont know why - but that has happened to some of my clients (who are actually still clients - and for whom I have previously had HMRC correspondence) - then you have to apply for online authorisation again.
At this point, I am now systematically getting 64-8's signed, as well as getting online authorisations, and sending copies not just to longbenton, but to the corporation tax and PAYE office in question - as well as keeping a copy on file for future reference for when the tax office lose the one I have just sent in.
When I started in business, I loved the online authorisation, thought it was the perfect answer, it now appears I am keeping royal mail in business (someone has to) and keeping the already over loaded tax offices in even more paperwork.
Oh, and actually wasting my time, my staff's time, my paper, ink, stamps!
