HMRC are completely useless, not fit for purpose at all.
This month they have cancelled a client's VAT registration and refunded him the VAT already paid. I called them to ask why they said they didn't have enough information on him to verify his identity though oddly enough to pay funds back into his bank account! This after they have already set him up as VAT registered!
On checking another client's PAYE account today I could see that HMRC have omitted a month's CIS payable from their records, even though the return was submitted and the liability was paid on time. Client said he had a nasty letter from them chasing unpaid CIS of 3k, he is actually 1k in credit as HMRC have omitted the 4k CIS suffered by the client last month. So for a client who has been trading for less than 6 months HMRC's PAYE account for him has 2 errors already.
If only we had a choice whether we should use them!
This is the software equivalent of government announcing political bad news on the same day as a major event. Xero's attitude will be "well if they are all doing it why don't we?"
Perhaps this has been triggered by Xero being inundated with Hubdoc enquires after this week's Dext bombshell.
As a Xero and Dext user this annoys me, I have already decided to ditch Dext this year (all £650pm of it) on principle though I will stay with Xero ... for now.
We dumped a "January client" in February of last year, heard nothing since. No handover requests received since, no reply at all from the ex-client.
So it was no surprise that we got an email a few days ago asking if we "could just do one more then we will ask someone else next year". It was with relish that we replied we could not.
My answers
30 of 300 returns to do. All but 6 are just that one piece of information away from being done!
So no real issues for us this year despite having far fewer staff hours available so I am happy with that.
I recommend ditching the usual suspects. We have let so many go over the last 3 years and haven't looked back.
The actions of some software companies of late do have a cartel-esque feel to them.
Haha I was wondering you could have possibly typed that wasn't that word but was deemed offensive.
?
Thanks for the reply. Yes usually they are very good at responding but nothing from them at all this week which is frustrating.
I will give them until Monday then consider using someone else.

We have used MMB many times to import to Xero. Seems to work well from Sage to Xero.
To date we have not had any experience of moving data from QBO to Xero though we try to stay well away from QBO.
Another thumbs up for Xero. We converted from Sage 3 years ago and haven't looked back. Miles better.
