"It has taken a conflict and a very long time for our leaders to recognise that the City of London has long been a natural harbour for very wealthy criminals."
I find it hard to believe that it took a very long time to realise this!
Anywhere in the world, anywhere, where there is obscene wealth there will be shady types. Turning a bind eye is (finally) becoming less acceptable now.
I do hope the Saudis start getting more media attention following the recent 81 executions in one day. Sport has a tendency to sell out to the money, given the recent anti-Russian revolt I hope that extends to the barbaric Saudis too.
I'm with you on this. Some of the best accountants I have worked with have had no qualifications. Some of the worst were fully qualified ACCAs (3 immediately spring to mind).
Letters after your name does not necessarily guarantee a quality of service provided.
Paul, you were pleasantly modest in the promotion of Dext, so allow me ...
We have been using it for over a year and are thankful that it exists! Clients like it, which is a bonus. Its integration with Xero is a real bonus too.
For those who are still receiving all client invoices and expenses via the post I would suggest that you seriously look into using Dext/Xero. The time savings are incredible. With MTD for income taxes lurking we would not would have no chance in maintaining a level of service without Dext.
I will also be telling my clients that I am away on holiday the last two weeks of February (in past years the fib had been January), they tend to react to that.
We probably won't have more than 10 tax returns to do by the end of January as we have worked on the assumption that there will be no penalty-free February announcement, though I think the news of one is sensible given that practices up and down the country will have suffered from staff having to self-isolate.
"Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI), highlights how little or no notice was given regarding the two changes directly to the women affected. WASPI also detail how the women have been impacted so much that they have needed to seek out alternative arrangements to support them financially, whilst they wait to reach the new state retirement age."
and
".. how can equality be addressed when one gender seems to be penalised at every stage of their life?"
Women used to get state pensions 5 years before men did. When this was corrected the women campaigning saying it was discrimination?
Did WASPI campaign for equality on that score, especially as they generally live longer?
I'm not one for usually defending the government/HMRC but in this case I think that they have done the right thing. Announcing this any earlier would have been an excuse for many clients to back off until the end of February.
We have around 15 tax returns to do, for around 5 of those we have yet to receive the full information. I have a feeling that those 5 will hear of this deadline and ignore our requests until the last few days of February at which point they will "struggle to get hold of me", if you know what I mean.
What a ridiculous and patronising article! I'm shocked that this is allowed on this forum. And why does the tip for fighting racism include point number 2? Is all racism one-way? I'm white and have at times been treated adversely because of my skin colour, isn't that racism?
I'm with Morgan Freeman who when antagonisingly asked what should we do about racism, replied; "stop talking about it, if we do it isn't a thing".
My answers
Are you talking about the UK or the EU?
".. but he's been exposed as hopelessly out of touch and politically inept once the going got tough."
Don't they all?
That's ok then? Can we all dodge taxes on that basis?

Same here to your first sentence!
