I joined Sift Media in February 2008 as content management assistant. I was then promoted to content manager (cover maternity leave) and I also began to look at managing the communities of AccountingWEB.co.uk and UK Business Forums. Feel free to contact me about anything in relation to this site as your community manager. Enjoy! And don't forget to add your comments and blogs etc!

Don't do that!
You're welcome Nick, but don't cross your fingers the whole way through your holiday, how will you hold your pint? :)

After more reported posts I have decided to moderate above comments as they did appear to create a lot of bad feeling on this thread.

Request for respect
Please remember to respect each other's views. If you make a statement which you claim is 'fact' please take the time to reference a source of authority to back up your claim to prevent further derailing of a useful discussion.
It is fine to disagree with views, but we ask that this is done respectfully and without the use of emotive language.
Thanks in advance.

I knew I would be unpopular
I suspected that comment might make me unpopular, allow me to expand. Of course I didn't mean 'because you don't pay for it, tough', I am slightly upset that those members who know me here would think that, but then I can't have it all I suppose :)
I was just trying to counter-balance the anology that David had used in that it wasn't really a like for like comparison.
I do think we have justified our testing procedure sufficiently, and I do apologise to those of you who think we handled it badly. I can guarantee that I have tried my hardest to respond to individual member comments and I believe I have answered/sent in the region of about 1,000 emails over the past 4 days.
With regard to rewarding those members who were in the testing group, I am told this is underway.

I have received several reported posts from this thread. I see no need to moderate at present, but I do feel the need to back up some of what has been suggested.
If you are confused by FT's questions, express your confusion if you have a genuine desire to help. If not, then please do not respond. And if you find that any member is not to your taste, don't forget we now have an ignore button which you are welcome to exercise.

Hi, and sorry for our absence on this thread today, lots of members coming through on email which I have been dealing with this morning.
I've just had a scan through the latest comments above, and I think a lot of them are covered in the user guide which can be found in 'Help' in the footer of every page. But for ease, it's here: https://www.accountingweb.co.uk/help
Some of your other comments and requests are being looked at by the development team, so we still yet may be able to offer you all of the above, we'll have to wait and see over the coming days.
With regard to printer friendly, I'm afraid we have lost this in favour of more sharing options - we had to make a call about what we thought would be most useful, and as it turns out we didn't get a lot of 'hits' on the printer friendly buttons so we thought it was redundant.
As to David's comments about getting ‘shot by a customer’, what we have to remember here is that while you are our 'customers' you do not pay for a product, if you were paying us for this then of course we would expect that you would be annoyed by bugs. As is it, we consulted members far in advance of any changes, worked closely with the test user group as much as we could, but any 'go live' always comes with risks. Every member is using a different browser, has different operating systems, and indeed individual preferences on their workstations, it is impossible to replicate all of these user experiences, so we did the best we could do in the circumstances. By and large members have been exceptionally helpful in reporting bugs so we can get them fixed.
All in all, feedback has been positive, but I guess it comes back to that old adage of not being able to please all of the people all of the time.
With regard to the thumbs down discussion above, we discussed this here but we felt it wasn't productive to offer a negative feedback option for members to critique each other with for fear of it being abused - we are not about chastising members by slapping them with a ‘thumbs down’ for their comment.
And finally, members do not have the option to delete their own content. You are all part of a community and you contribute your time to respond to member queries. If a member decides on a whim they no longer want their question here they have to come through the channels and we decide through rigorous consideration the merits of their requests. How annoyed would you be if a member kept deleting threads which you had contributed to and thought were useful but the member simply decided they'd had enough. We expect, or rather we ask, that members be considerate of what they post before they post it, it saves everyone time, upset and embarrassment. You'd be amazed at how differently some situations would turn out if you read what you planned to post before you posted it, or even, if you were annoyed to pen a response but to come back to it later when you had calmed down to review if you really wanted to post it.

We are uncovering some issues with the search data and results. Please bear with us while we try and reinstate it. Thanks.

Have you got your RSS sorted now? I have had to reset mine too. I'm interested to hear whether you are using this as motivation to switch over to the G side, let me know about your experiences there.
