I joined Sift Media in February 2008 as content management assistant. I was then promoted to content manager (cover maternity leave) and I also began to look at managing the communities of AccountingWEB.co.uk and UK Business Forums. Feel free to contact me about anything in relation to this site as your community manager. Enjoy! And don't forget to add your comments and blogs etc!

Thanks for your feedback, Ian.
The fact is that quality content costs money, so we could investigate charging members a fee, but research shows that not enough members would be willing to pay the fee we would need to charge to keep the site going without advertising.
I did take the feedback from members to the sales team the last time the issue of page takeovers was raised by members, they have agreed to look into alternatives and work with our advertisers to find solutions that suit everyone, but sadly this particular ad had already been booked and we have to honour our commitments.
You would be shocked to learn the amount we would need to charge members in order to cover our costs, and I'm sure if you ask the majority of our members they prefer to keep their membership free and deal with occasional inconvenience of adverts.

Cycling not great for weight loss in my experience
You don't burn off as many calories cycling for 20 minutes as you would running for the same amount of time. Also, I'm reliably informed that muscle is heavier than fat, so what you might be losing in body fat will still show up on the scales as 'weight'.
Might be worth looking at a different exercise regime; keep it varied, get some cardio stuff in there, when your heart rate is up you'll burn those cals even if you're doing strength exercises. For example, 1 minute of star jumps to get your heart rate up, and then a mixture of sit-ups, push-ups etc. And repeat!
There are some great training programmes online, have a rummage around. But remember that in order to lose weight you have to burn off more calories than you take on. I'm told that to lose 0.5 kg you need to burn off 3,500 more calories than you take in! I'm guessing this is spread out over time rather than in one day though :)
Good luck with it, keep experimenting, every body is different.

A little story...
I tweet, both personally and for Sift Media websites, and as such I follow and am followed by various people from all walks of life. This following has developed and grown over the two years I have been on the site. Someone I follow in Bristol put out a Tweet to say he needed a recommendation for a good roofer/builder and quick! I retweeted his plea and within the hour he had three recommendations for good local builders.
So perhaps it is worth it to get your name out there, or perhaps it's just worth talking to clients about whether they are on Twitter and whether they would be happy to recommend you. However you interpret Twitter I would say it is most definitely the Yellow Pages of the future, among many other things, so perhaps even if you do not use it, it's not advisable to completely ignore it or its power and influence.
By the way, this should really have been posted as an Any Answers rather than a blog. If you want to repost it there, let me know when you have and I will delete this blog and move my comment over edited of course!

You cannot copy and paste straight from Word I am afraid - there is lots of hidden code in Word which carries over onto our site but actually shows up once you submit your comment.
Either type directly into the comment box or copy it into Notepad which is text-based only. Alternatively, if you must come from Word, you can paste it through the icon at the top of the comment box which shows a clipboard with a blue 'W' on it.
Hope that helps.

Although Miserable Wenches R Us sounds like an appealing focus group ;)

Some important additions there, Ermintrude
I would also like to add:
People who type loudlyPeople who butt[***] in on conversations that have nothing to do with them'Tidy Friday' freaks
I'm sure there are more...
I'd like to offer a counter-comment and say, there are also things that people do in the office that I love!
Humming to themselves and/or singing - love this!Desk dancing when something good happensTeam tea-making roundsPeople who come to work bearing gifts in the form of foodPeople who do impressions of colleagues (in a non-horrible way of course)
There are so many things I love about working in an office that I would miss if I worked alone at home, although, I do miss This Morning or more to the point, I miss the Schofe!

Thanks for your feedback, Joe (our tech guy/developer) says it is interesting feedback and you raise a good point about the date/time. However, he says that you can access IT Zone via 'Technology' on the navigation. Also, not sure which bit of the site you mean by 'Forum' - can you clarify? If you mean Any Answers, this is definitely available.
Please keep us posted with any niggles or successes - thanks.

I second that
I'd like to second Joe's thanks to the members who were part of the app trial - thanks for your involvement and feedback.
And thanks for the above feedback, Batty Girl - glad you like it!
Moving forward, if anyone notices anything unusual please report this back to us so we can look into it - be as specific as possible, state your phone and detail the problem. Thanks in advance.
