I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Taxfiler. IRIS only increased the price to a more sensible one (some might say the original price was deliberately low to get a large client base ripe for selling)
We haven't dismissed it, just weighing up options.
Was about to, but then got the email... I've got a client who's 83 and doesn't have a computer, have HMRC provided a telephone alternative yet? I've seen a couple of 0800 numbers posted on here but I haven't seen it mentioned on gov.uk, and I'd like to check that it's official before I ask clients to be put on hold for hours
Yep the 0800 024 1222 works. One of my clients called it this morning and they processed her claim over the phone.
Client had de-registered 30/11. On bridging software the final period was showing as 01/12/19 - 30/11/19 !
Checked VAT account via our ASA and it gave me the option of submitting the return by completing the boxes. Nil return but each box was entered and submitted successfully.
Well, we must be in the minority I'm pleased to say.
I set-up the firm's ASA last week without too much hassle. Linked our existing GG accounts and now have our first two monthly VAT clients authorised and entered into our bridging software.
I really was expecting the worst and we,as a practice, put it off for as long as possible. However, I only had one issue at the very beginning matching our practice and postcode which was sorted relatively quickly.
We've come to the conclusion that bridging software will be the best solution for most of our clients. Spreadsheets are far easier to understand and manipulate to suit each individual client depending on their type of business.
There is no way bridging will only be suitable for one year. Many clients simply won't switch to cloud bookkeeping no matter how we press them.
I think we've all been led up the garden path to make the leap to cloud bookkeeping. It's not the solution for everyone. We're now suggesting clients use Excel.
There are plenty to choose from. It may depend on whether you prefer a cloud based option or a "template" download.
I've tried Taxcalc (14 day free trial) which is simple enough to use and allows entering demo data.
Most other need an active ASA.
Other cloud based options include BTC, Tax Optimiser, 1 Click Accounts & 123 Sheets (which is looking like the favourite at the minute).
Have a look through the HMRC approved list and look at each on their merits.
You'll find there aren't many "reviews" by users as that would mean enrolling in the pilot. As many are putting this off until mandation, actual hands-on reviews are rare.

Just need a few use opinions of others out there.

Are you just his mate as I'm assuming you're not from a financial background ?
If so, why doesn't he either ask these questions himself or go to someone who can actually understand what you're trying to ask ?
I'm still trying to decipher it myself.....
Ditto, similar thing.

Weird and a bit disconcerting.
Loads to choose from. Take your pick:-

I use Chrome incidentally.
Thanks for your input.
