personal tax account
How can they get this right. I have at least one client who's state pension i have checked against the amount shown on my agents "other information to complete your tax return" and found it wrong or missing. This one client said nil, even though the itr for the last two years showed state pension. I telephoned hmrc as this year the clients husband died and her state pension would be altered. She is ill so I could not ask her. They said they did not have the information as they did not need to issue a coding notice, I asked what I should put on the return, they said make an estimate. They would check if it was right when reviewing the return, I asked if that was the case why could they not tell me now what it was!!!!!!
I have no hope of hmrc getting it right on the PTA

directors loan accounts discolsure issues
I have a ltd company client with husband and wife directors and sole shareholders, overdrawn dla at year end of 6,000 with no split of what is owed by each director, can you deal with this as one account or must you split it in two for disclosurer. Would you have to charge interest as it is over £5000 if there is only one account but two directors owing it? Would you have to show this as two accounts on the notes to the accounts

Thank you Rebecca, I thought the 3 year disposal was too easy. Yes the property is jointly owned. The property has been split into three parts now in order to try and sell it. Could I bank indexation by transferring different parts to each partner (husband and wife) so that they solely own a flat each etc., as the solicitors have to split the title deed in any case, presumably this must be done by the 5th April 2008.
The only safe way seems to restart a business again say as holiday lets in the two flats which have been split off from the shop/workshop from which the business was run.

Does a sale in 2008/09 by a husband and wife partnership who ceased trading in March 2006, of their shop which has been a business asset from pre 1982 come under the qualifying disposals for the 3 year period to 2009. No rent has ever been charged.

What about an English version
As a former PAP advisor I tried to use Quick Books. I do not like the american influence in the wording etc., a recent letter was sent with the american date with a note beside in brackets telling me it was in the american format. Surely they realise we are not another state of america (or are we) and that it would be nice to use our way of doing things if they really want to sell their products here. If they are going to get rid of Tax Calc which I have used for 5 years in the previous Which format, perhaps they will have the courtesy to tell us in good time. Or perhaps it will be sold to some more deserving firm.
