I Agree with this in principle.
One of the reasons for the UK's inflated house prices is inherited wealth. Reduce this by increasing Inheritance Tax, will cause house prices to fall, so benefiting the lower paid and first time buyers who are struggling to find huge deposits.
I agree, this is more hype.
The government should sort out the basic services first.
In our village, just north of Slough, we have a broadband speed of 3Mbs. Openreach are refusing to run a fibre link 1 mile from our exchange. Applying under the USO (Universal Service Obligation) results in them saying we could have their mobile 4g BB service, at an increased cost of £35 per month. But we know that the local 4g service is poor and unreliable.
We are stuck, and all we hear about is 5g
At the beginning of all this, I remember an exemption being mentioned that "essential admin" tasks were allowed to be performed.
It will be interesting to see how this will be interpreted in subsequent investigations.
Does anyone have the answer to this ?
I made a claim for the month of April, but entered the gross salary, instead of the 80% figure.
Of course, HMRC have refunded the gross figure, so we have been overpaid.
How to correct this ? The support line doesn't know. The obvious answer is to adjust the May claim downwards, but is it correct to do so?
The escalating costs will mean that the fares will be unaffordable for most people, so they will drive or fly, or use the existing train service. Big white elephant.
Perhaps the accountant should have issued credit notes to cancel the invoices, then re-invoiced in the next quarter when the matter of delivery had been made clear.
The visiting Customs officer would be unlikely to have spotted this
My answers
What is a PIE please ?
Have they run this past the Office of Tax Simplification ?

The expected windfall of £65m seems rather low. Does anyone have an estimate of the lost corporation tax that these companies should be paying ?
