Political suicide for the Tories. A £10k tax cut for those earning £500k. The government will then refuse in the next few weeks to give a decent pay rise for nurses earning £30k. The same nurses such as my wife who put their lives on the line working through the pandemic when those earning £500k such as my City trader tax return clients worked from home. If Labour don’t win the next election then they are finished.
And if it’s morally wrong it will not work anyway-the markets will see to that.

Totally agree with many of the comments above. Accounting Web is rapidly becoming nothing more than an advertising platform for cloud software. The unanswered questions around spreadsheets and MTD (disgracefully in my opinion give we, sorry our clients, are meant to be doing this next April) remain. The only answer suggested here that Sage don't think spreadsheets work well for MTD. Would've believed that?!
HMRC simply do not value the vital conduit that agents provide between small business and HMRC. If they want to manage without agents then fine but I suggest this will result in a reduced tax take in the long term. Utter madness.

Quite clearly then the ATT is not listening to its members on MTD. Pathetic.
You are right, access to business individual transactions by HMRC can be the only sensible rationale for MTD.
