ive still got an old vintage s500 working on windows 10 even though fujitsu say its doesn't work :), what do they know ?
cant remember what I did , I think it was using the ix500 install,
but I liked seeing the little filing cabinet icon folders of the original s500 so managed to install that as well :)
basically fujitsu want you to buy new hardware , but there are workarounds , if you google the problem you will find an enthusiast blog with all the tricks :)
absolutely spot on , do the minimum the law requires , if you have suspicion thats a different matter, otherwise you will end up working long hours, no social life and with a coronary
if youre in a city its easier to flog a batch of clients , seems to be 1 x grf / at present ? I really sympathise , to me that sort of compliance work is not worth the effort
alternatively try and get them up to speed on doing their own compliance work -
1. payroll (never had a client who couldn't deal with moneysoft payroll after an hour of set up , with remote support). I no longer operate payrolls and saved huge overheads.
2. vat - well xls + bridging software is a dogs dinner if clients are not reasonably excel proficient), so hook up with cloud accounting supplier so you can give good backup
3. at the end of the year .. just sigh and tell them they've messed up and its going to cost a lot to sort it out
my experience is the more you do for clients the more they expect you to do , if they walk, youre better off without them
ps , think I remember talking to the treasury solicitor ?..really helpful .. even talked through the originating application procedure … seriously I wouldnt pay a solicitor for half a days work , but I'm tight fisted
that's a nice one.. don't be daunted, quite a few years ago limited client came to me , accounts in arrears huge losses in later years and expected c/b loss refund to pay my bill.. I did all the work ,.. then letter from lovely HMRC saying losses agreed but company had been struck off on xx/xx/xx so it belonged to the duchy of Lancaster (I think) . (this was before companies house online)
so you need to restore company to register by "orginating application" if my memory serves me correct, with application to county court who will ask if company is solvent ,
at the end of the hearing district judge will expect you to draft the order to restore (if he is agreeable) , you draft it, send it to court for stamp , send copy to HMRC and get paid
Surprisingly, my experience with HMRC on the telephone recently has been somewhat refreshing , no doubt due to the fact I seem to have been put through to a most helpful & courteous northerly gentlemen
My answers
definately buy s/hand , these are bullet proof machines ,
I still have an s500 ( and others) used and abused daily for 12 years without any maintenance issues , a complete 12 year office record in pdf
the ix500 software will run these and other early machines on win10 ( it might take a few hours , but its worth it)
fujitsu definately messed up making them so armour-plated ,
just buy s/h on ebay
